Going After Your Dreams

My big dream is to empower, inspire and mentor millions of people. People that I won’t necessarily ever meet but who I am able to access by any means possible with the intention to serve them to fulfil their dreams.

So, there you have it, that’s my big dream and that is actually the first time I’ve ever shared that out loud.

But even if nobody has heard me say that before, what many have witnessed is my baby steps. The ones I take every day to build towards it all because it means so much to me.

And its meaning is what makes it possible: building a dream that makes me feel alive.

And of course, I’m human, like the rest of you. I don’t sugar coat life either. I’ve had my fair share of crisis, doubts and setbacks, and I will continue to do so because that’s life.

But it’s the hiccups in life that tend to make me more driven because I don’t want them to stop me, even if they slow me down for a while depending on what it is.

But imagine if I denied their existence or repressed my experience (which I have done as well). I wouldn’t be able to fulfil the dreams I want to fulfil for you because everything I want to do is about meaning and acceptance.

You see, when we allow our experience and accept it, we are more able to process it fully and then realise what doesn’t serve us to make way for the magic to come through instead.

Going After Your Dreams

So, how about you? What do you dream?

And what would it mean to you to go after those dreams?

I believe there are two types of dreams:

- The big lofty ones that we think we might work towards one day (whenever that day might be).

- The smaller ones; the ones we know we can reach if we could just find the time to take the first step.

So, how about you, what's stopping you with your dreams? What’s getting in the way of you taking your first step?

More Time

If it's a matter of finding more time, what would you do with that time if I gifted it to you?

I ask because if you really want it, there's always a way to claw back some time by doing less of what doesn't actually serve you.

So, what would you do if you just a had a little more time?

More Money

How about if someone threw you some cash for the cause, so you didn’t have to worry about your money commitments, then what would you do?

Time and money (or the lack of) are the two biggest reasons people state for not going after their dreams.

And so, if neither are an issue anymore, what would you do with the cash and the time?

Take some time to pause and breathe into the moment.

Feel your way into your deepest desires and take a good look at what’s important to you and allow yourself to… just dream.

And if you feel the urge to pick up a pen, write down anything that comes to you, no matter how silly it might seem.

Some of my wackiest ideas have been my best… I mean, come on, I’ve written books with talking animals in them and one of my main characters is half bird, half girl with purple feathers.

But you know what, my little readers love her!!

No idea isn’t an excuse, and absolutely no idea is ever too strange.

Allow yourself to write down literally anything that comes to you, and let that be okay.

Feeling stuck?

If you find yourself feeling stuck when it comes to going after what you want, you must know that you’re not alone. I know the world of Instagram and the like, makes it look like people’s dreams ping out of an immediate insightful inspiration and then all of a sudden, they’re the expert, the millionaire or living their best life.

But come on, if you believe that then you need to look at why.

Dig deep inside to find out what’s going on in your heart to make your mind think that everyone else is doing well and your life is just a pile of shite!

We know sparkles are only the surface layer. There is always more than meets the eye. There’s also a reason why the phrase ‘blood, sweat and tears’ is well-known.

It’s because all of them go into achieving the best dreams.

The first version I drafted of The Bitch Pad book came literally out of a day where I stubbed my toe, cried because I was feeling so helpless, and perspired profusely when I realised the weirdest slip of action of my life.

But you’ll have to wait until the book’s release in October for that revelation. But I tell you, it was the weirdest day I think I can ever remember in my life. Bit it inspired something, which I just… love!

And even the small dreams seem too much for us to try and work out how to get there sometimes.

But you have to start somewhere.

The end is never at the beginning because well, that's where the beginning is.

The end, or your goal only arrives because you begin somewhere smaller.

So, make a start.

What are some of your small goals?

If you were to just make that start, where would you begin?

What would be your first step if neither money nor time were a problem?

What one thing could you do today or this week?

And we know the difference between coulds and the will of our way.

So, what will you actually do?

And when will you do it?

The when is really important.

Take all the time you need.

It’s really important if these goals are important to you.

To start, we have to begin at the beginning and that’s okay.

We are never the expert out the outset.

Our craft always needs to be honed.

We build experience, gather interest and introduce ourselves to the world. Nobody ever knows us before we begin. We have to make a start for all of that to happen.

And if we haven't tried before, of course we’re rookies, and of course that means we haven't made mistakes either.

And so, we must make a start to know how to improve the beginning, otherwise we'll never know what it's like to be the expert, the award winner, the consultant, the best seller or even the influencing inspirer.

Or perhaps, if your dream of staying local, building a small business or community, sharing your creative gifts or keeping people active, that’s what’s important to you and that’s fine.

Whatever your dream, don’t let it disappear without trying if it’s only fear that’s stopping you.

Don’t you think I’ve worried about whether people will like my voice or not?

I mean, come on, I’m doing a podcast. Of course, I’ve worried about that, but it was a fear I had to face, because guess what, I’m doing it!

Whether you like my voice or not, it doesn’t matter… anymore. But it did in the beginning.

And so of course, the beginning is the time to test the waters.

And you’re only going to get a result if you begin.

Start small, build up and then grow.

This is the best route to success at whatever you want than trying to jump the gun too far or of course, not beginning at all… because when you don't begin, you’ve created your end from the outset.

So, what are you going to do... FIRST?

And don’t worry, you don’t have to start alone.

The first step is to get really clear on what you really want.

See, I’m here to help you.

Take some time to get intimate with all that you want. Lean into you, as you breathe into all that you are, and just listen to the whispers within.

What do you want? What do you desire?

The second step is to work out what it would mean to you if that first step led you to your goal.

So, think about it, what would it mean to you?

Let it all out…

Be brave, allow your intuition to sing, be tenacious with your efforts to really get to know what it would mean to you because your beautifully creative heart is ready to be heard.

The third step is all about how you would feel if you reached the goal that means so much to you.

So, how would you feel? Lean into that deeply.

What would it look like, what might your experience be, what might you sense, or what might you know?

And what might you be doing… or have?

And who are you in this picture?

And how does all of that make you feel?

When you begin to think about these things, you are already taking small steps towards what you want.

And by taking these small steps you are already on your way.

And so, assuming you've taken these steps with me, it's time to take some action. The sort of action that you know is worth your time because we're talking about something that means something to you.

And... Action!!

Fourth Step

So, what are you going to do about it?

Which leads us to your fifth step towards reaching your goal...

When are you going to do that something about it?

And since you've taken so many steps already, and made a lot of progress, I think you owe it to yourself to take that action.

And for me, well, t's been nice talking to you, but I think I’ll now leave you in charge of leading your own way now, as you've done such a fine job up until now.

Well done for getting started even if that only feels like you've been thinking and listening to me talking.

Feelings and thoughts combined become dreams that turn into plans that lead to action.

All towards what you want!

And for those big lofty goals, the ones that sometimes need a little more support to help you get them off the ground, of course I'm happy to help. Whether it's coaching or mentoring you need, I'll leave it you to book in with me to help you empower your own way forward.

You can reach me at marieskilling.com and you’ll find more inspired thinking through my shiny Instagram account marie.skilling.

And if you found this podcast useful or you think someone else might benefit from listening, please do spread the word. It would really mean a lot to me.

For now,

Best wishes and enjoy the magic!
